The NSA is spying on journalists

After it became clear that the junta was using the capabilities of the NSA to conduct clandestine spying, I had a number of conversations about likely domestic targets of this activity. The premise is simple: everything that these guys do has a political angle, and with no effective or independent oversight, there is no clear incentive for them to be honest. So yes, I do assume that regime critics are being targeted.

And today ABC announces that its communications with sources are being monitored, along with those of the New York Times and the Washington Post.

How much clearer does it need to be made that the Bush administration is literally criminal? And that this 'terrorist surveillance program' is directed at political enemies?

A government that spies on its citizens and the media is not small-d democratic. It is a tyranny.
