America's moral crisis

This country is in a moral crisis, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with ass-fucking or bad TV.

It's a moral crisis when we have the highest infant mortality rate and lowest life expectancy of any industrialized nation.

It's a moral crisis when the single biggest cause of bankruptcy in this country is a medical emergency like a child with cancer.

It's a moral crisis when a personal bankruptcy gets treated differently than a corporate bankruptcy, when Enron gets better terms than a parent whose kid has cancer.

It's a moral crisis when working full-time for minimum wage puts you below the poverty line.

It's a moral crisis when thirty million Americans can't read, fifty million have no health insurance, and eighty million have gone without insurance at some point in the last year.

It's a moral crisis when drug companies write healthcare laws, polluters write environmental laws, oil companies write energy laws, and our legislators are bought and sold by crooked, greedy special interests.

It's a moral crisis when we the people have less say in our government than big-money donors.

It's a moral crisis when we're stuck in a war in Iraq and nobody has a clue about what to do next.

It's a moral crisis when Pentagon cost-cutting begins with veterans' health care, and when the seventeen thousand and more Iraq War injured need to pay for their own food at military hospitals.

It's a moral crisis when the Supreme Court says big developers can take your home without your consent, and that government whistleblowers enjoy no First Amendment rights.

It's a moral crisis when the Bush junta declares global warming to be a fantasy despite crushing evidence to the contrary.

It's a moral crisis that we're dependent on Mideast oil, and all you hear from those in power is about drilling, while we have only 2% of the world's reserves and use 25% of its oil.

It's a moral crisis when almost five years after 9/11, this government suddenly notices that it has no control over its own borders, and professes shock that there are twelve million illegal immigrants in this country that it does not know what to do with.

It's a moral crisis when cronies like Michael Brown get hired to run anything at all, let alone get a consulting contract with a Federal agency they ruined.

It's a moral crisis when we have to borrow two billion dollars a day from overseas while we're giving three billion a day to Paris Hilton and her Park Avenue ilk.

Don't talk to me about assfucking, the DaVinci Code or other crap. Talk to me about the real crisis.
