Moral values my ass

I'm sure we all remember the cant from 2004, about how Rs were supposedly endowed with superior virtue, a god-given dispensation quite unrelated to actual conduct.

Well, in the last few days, we've seen something that is far more apropos: an explosion of reactionary criminality in the headlines, some new, some old.
  • A prostitution ring, funded by corrupt defense contractors and catering to the most reactionary (and married) members of the House, was unveiled. It appears that Porter Goss, currently CIA Director, was involved.
  • It appears that Ken Mehlman and other high-ranking RNC staff are implicated in a criminal 2002 election phone-jamming scandal for which one R staffer has already gone to jail.
  • Meanwhile, the Bush Pentagon is trying to cover the cost of tax cuts for billionaires by suing 900 injured veterans for a total of $1.2 million, money which they do not owe.
And this is just the stuff in the headlines that is criminal by statute. There's not enough time, almost, with all the statutory depravity, to go into R policies - illegal and unnecessary wars, a gargantuan budget deficit caused by tax cuts for Paris "Skank" Hilton, the erosion of the wall of separation, the damage to our alliances, soviet-tyle government secrecy, instituionalized discrimination and extremism, the list goes on - that may be legal, but is an outrage against everything that is good and right.

Tell me again about your moral values, boys?
