The bubble bursts

I think you'll be seeing more of this in the months and years to come, as the right wing continues in its slow-motion collapse: arguments that the underlying dogma is fine, and that the problem is with the execution, obstructionism, etc.; and that the American people just don't have enough patience, on Iraq, the Katrina clean-up, and so on.

The first claim is patently absurd, which virtually guarantees that it will be made; indeed, some neocons are alrady blasting Bush on that very, albeit contrived, point. The truth is that Congress has approved essentially everything that Bush and his merry bunch of nitwits wanted; and what Congress did not approve, they went ahead and did anyway.

The second, which I read just this morning, is so laughable as to be guaranteed acceptance into the right-wing Canon of Approved Drivel©. The truth is this: the American people have been profoundly and maddeningly patient with this bunch of hacks for five years. We bought the tax cuts, even if they immediately produced staggering deficits. We bought the war and stuck with it for over two years. When we stopped believing the hype was during Katrina; that's when the lies were so obvious, in-your-face and transparent that the underlying good will snapped.

And so here we are today. I'll make a prediction: the R's are going to jettison their boy king in the near future, as they wake up to the damage he's done to their 'cause'. After November, they might well be looking for a clean slate, much as they did with Nixon. That, in turn, would make impeachment a viable option.
