Samuel Alito - liar, freak show, extremist. What's not to like?

OK, fine. Samuel Alito doesn't think there's a problem if a ten year old girl is strip-searched by police without a warrant. I'm not sure how that comports with the search and seizure provisions of the Bill of Rights, but hey, it's a free country, and everyone can advocate for fascism to the extent they see fit.

What I have some serious problems with is lying to Congress. Alito, before he was confirmed by the Senate, promised to recuse himself from any decisions affecting Vanguard Corp, a mutual fund in which he has an interest. This in turn is basic judicial hygiene; judges are supposed to recuse themselves when there's even the appearance of a conflict of interest. Too bad he did not, in fact, recuse himself, and handed down decisions that favored Vanguard. In short, he lied to Congress.

Yesterday, of course, the Washington Times - a right-wing journal owned by Syung Moon - delivered the first scoop of its history with the publication of Alito's job application to the Reagan administration. He says some very unfortunate things in that document, essentially bitching about the Warren Court and freedom of choice. When asked by Senator Boxer about that indiscretion, what does the perky little fascist say?

"Well, I was trying to get the job."

So I guess we're supposed to trust you now, as you're assuring us about stare decisis? When your ringing defense of your extremism is to claim that you lied in a job interview?

Alito is a lying, wretched little man, an extremist, and a sorry excuse for a human being to boot. He can not be confirmed.
